Interfax The oil tycoon and State Duma Deputy Roman Abramovich overwhelmingly won Sunday's election for governor of the Far North Chukotka region, a preliminary count showed. He gathered 92 percent of the vote which amounts to more than 18,000 people, the Chukotka regional electoral commission reported. His two rivals collected 2.79 and 0.77 percent of the vote and 2,36% percent voted for none of the above. Incumbent Governor Alexander Nazarov, who initially registered for the election, pulled out a week before the elections. Observers said he gave in to pressure from the Kremlin which favored Abramovich.
