Hungry man kills Bambi


A Slavyanka man illegally entered a deer breeding ground and killed one animal last week. When arrested he said he needed the food. Damages were estimated at 2.6 million rubles (US$ 400).

Kidnapping radio man nabbed outside of krai


Police hunted down and arrested former VBC Radio Station Commercial Director Sergei Balakin in Sverdlovskaya oblast last week. Balakin had been charged with complicity in abducting VBC journalist Aleksei Sadykov, but managed to elude authorities until last week.

Assassination attempt on housing official failed


An explosion occurred on Kirova Street at 1:38 a.m. August 11, though no one was hurt. The bomb was directed at Valery Malyavin, acting head of the embatttled N5 housing agency. The explosion broke out a window in Malyavin's apartment, as well as windows in three neighboring apartments and a nearby telephone panel.
