Abused woman found dead in Lipovtsy


The body of 43-year-old Chinese woman was found near the Ilchevka settlement in Oktyabrsky area Sept. 23. Police say the woman died of physical abuse a few days before her body was found. She lived in the Lipovtsy settlement and was involved in reselling goods.

Turtle smuggler nabbed


Customs officers in Grodekovo found 12 soft-body turtles while examining train No. 401, which runs from Russia to China. A Chinese railway worker was trying to transport them home, where locals will pay 250,000-300,000 rubles ($42.37- 50.85) for a one-kilo turtle. The turtles were set free near Lake Khanka.

Pot producer busted


Law-enforcement officers found over 150 kilograms of dried hemp, 600 liters of acetone and other paraphernalia in a hut near the Varfolomeyevka settlement in Yakovlevsky area. A 26 year-old from Arseniev was arrested. A match-box sized portion of pot costs 50,000-60,000 rubles ($8.5-10.17).
