VIPs` lights glow during blackouts

The Vladivostok News

When power went off at 8 p.m. Sept. 25, a few Vladivostok reporters set out on a reconnaissance mission – to find out which Vladivostok VIPs suffered blackouts, and which enjoyed the luxury of light.

Within three hours, the gumshoes visited 12 apartment buildings. They found that only 25 percent of the bureaucrats endured power cuts.

Music pounded and windows radiated light at the home of First Vice Gov. Konstantin Tolstoshein. While mayor, Tostoshein earned notoriety when he phoned and screamed at a Dalenergo dispatcher after his power was cut (the conversation was taped).

Lights were also on at the homes of other ranking officials: Gov. Yevgeny Nazdratenko, Presidential Representative Victor Kondratov, Mayor Victor Cherepkov, Acting Mayor Yury Kopylov, and Krai Prosecutor Valery Vasilenko. The building shared by Far Eastern Shipping Company Director Victor Miskov was also bathed in light.
