October 16, 1997Baley story shows `under side` of RussiaI read your article on Baley ["Ground zero," Oct. 2]1 with interest. I am very surprised that you could write that; it reflects a side to Russia that is usually deleted from any new stories we get. But the Web is showing off more than the upper side of the beast. China's in for some red faces beside their flag due to the Net. Washington and London are having a taste of it already.
I took the liberty to forward your story to "60 Minutes" [a CBS television newsmagazine] I sent all the credits and paper info. Probably it will get lost, but there's the outside chance they will find it interesting enough to contact you. It could be a way out for those poor people.
