Hunters kill wounded tiger

The Vladivostok News

Tiger department rangers shot and killed an injured tiger in Spassky County after it killed 11 dogs in the village of Yevseyevka, officials said.

The endangered animal — the second killed since December — had a bullet wound that prevented it from hunting in the wild, so it had taken to hunting easier prey.

In such cases, hunters kill the tiger because of the risk it will turn to attacking humans.

Hunters tracked down and shot another tiger Dec. 24 after it killed two people near the village of Sobolinoe. In the second killing, the tiger devoured a hunter who was pursuing it, leaving only his scalp, two fingers, part of a gold chain, and a watch.

According to the Primorye Tiger Department, only about 400 Ussury tigers are remaining in the wild.
