Don`t dump city`s trams: You will live to regret it

by Frank E. Kennemur, Vancouver, Washington, USA

Upon reading your March 6 issue (162), I am at a loss for words to describe your mayor’s plans to do away with the trams.

Take my word for it: This will cause more problems than one can dream of. The streets in Vladivostok cannot handle all the traffic this will cause. Think of the parking problems alone. Where would all the additional cars park? Parking is a problem already. In Portland, Oregon, during rush hours, traffic is at a standstill for 30 minutes at a time during the morning and night rush-hour.

Portland is planning on increasing its public transport (trams and monorail). Los Angeles is also putting in the trams that they took out years ago, and residents now see taking them out as a big mistake.

It is your city to do as you wish. But I am trying to start a business here and in America. Transport is needed at both ends. I do ride your trams, and I do use your public transport.
