Russian and Chinese cadets engage in learning exchange

Combined reports

Over 100 cadets from marine universities in Vladivostok and St. Petersburg arrived in the Chinese port of Dalian to participate in the first Chinese-Russian festival of maritime universities that opened Tuesday, Itar-Tass reported.

The five-day summer event is organized by China’s Ministry for Communications, Russia’s Ministry of Transport, Dalian’s administration and Dalian Maritime University. The event, scheduled within the Year of Russia in China, aims to strengthen friendly relations between marine universities of the two countries.

The Russian delegation includes 44 cadets from the Vladivostok-based Far Eastern Technical Fishing University, which is known to have cooperated in scientific and student exchanges with Dalian Maritime University for many years, Vostok Media reported citing a press statement from the university.

Among other universities participating are Vladivostok’s Marine State University, St. Petersburg’s State Naval Academy, and China’s marine universities and academies.

During the festival, Russian students will visit Dalian Maritime University and the city’s fleet ships, and watch a performance that demonstrates life-saving skills on the sea. They will also embark on a sightseeing trip of Dalian and participate with their Chinese colleagues in swimming, football and other sports competitions.

The festival program also features performances by local musical collectives and a seminar which targets exchange experiences of Russian and Chinese naval university teachers, Itar-Tass said.
