Report from a stranded passenger

by Tamara Kaliberova

Early Sunday I woke up in my compartment of Sovgavan-Vladivostok passenger train to find myself in a railway traffic jam near Lazo station in central Primorye.

“There is a railway accident and we are stuck, probably for a long time,” our wagon service woman informed the passengers at about 7 a.m. Sunday. Then she asked for those travelers who might have other tickets on hand for priority evacuation. No details of the accident were revealed and the uninformed people started guessing about a possible train collision and casualties.

After one hour of anxious waiting we were told that our train would go to Dalnerechensk where all passengers could board buses. When totally exhausted I finally arrived to Vladivostok I had only one question in mind – will the passengers be compensated for the unexpected railway trouble?
