Archaeological project presents ancient culture

The Vladivostok News

The first series in an archaeological and tourist complex featuring replicas of ancient dwellings of Primorye’s ingenious peoples opened near the city of Nakhodka, a press statement from the city’s administration reported Thursday.

The complex, named ‘Paleoderevnya’ (‘Paleontological Village’), is a combination of an open-air museum, an educational project and an experimental site for archaeological research.

The village will include five dwelling sites, among them are the houses of The Neolithic (or "New" Stone Age) and The Early Iron Age, and a complex presenting medieval houses of Jurchens, a people who inhabited parts of Manchuria until the 17th century.

Each dwelling is an exact model of the archeological finds which were ¬discovered during excavations of ancient dwelling sites in the area, the statement said. The dwellings’ interior contains authentic ancient items which reflect different historical periods.

The project aims to become one of Primorye’s highlights and attract more tourists and travelers to the region, the statement said. The agenda for visiting tourists will include training in ancient craftsmanship and displaying ancient ceremonies.

The entire archaeological complex is planned to be opened gradually, with its full construction completed in 2007, the statement said.
