Divers from the Far Eastern State Technological University in Vladivostok have explored wreckages of two submarines – a Soviet and an American – nestling on the seabed of the La Perouse Strait in the Sea of Okhotsk.

Sports Japanese referee to officiate Vladivostok football match

The much anticipated Russian Premier League game between Vladivostok’s Luch and Moscow’s Spartak to be held in Vladivostok on Saturday will be refereed by Japan’s Toru Kamikawa, an internationally reputed referee who officiated at this year’s World Cup.

Eccentric bikers arrive to participate in the biker festival which took place last weekend on the sandy shores of the Bay of Peschanaya near Nakhodka.Adventure and freedom drove more than 3,000 bikers on August 11 to a sandy beach near the Russian city of Nakhodka on the Pacific Ocean, for an international meeting of motorcycle riding enthusiasts.

Crime watch Immunity shelters former US Consul from Russian invalid

A former U.S. consul general to the Russian Far East, who faced financial liability for a traffic accident in Vladivostok, has immunity and may not be sued in U.S. courts by the Russian citizen crippled in the 1998 car wreck, a U.S. federal court decided August 10.

Crime watch Kamchatka officials convicted of fraud

Kamchatka’s administration official and his brother as well as their two accomplices were sentenced to 3 and 2.5-year’s imprisonment respectively for stealing money intended to pay for the activities of local youth ecological groups.

A police patrol was forced to discharge a gun into the air to drive away a wild bear which appeared in the village of Sokol in the Magadan region, Sunday.

More than 70 members of ‘Nasha Strana’ youth movement carry a 50-meter Russian tricolor along the Naberezhnaya Bay  in Vladivostok on Tuesday before the start of the auto rally ‘Our Country-Our Flag’. The rally participants intend to drive the enormous flag through the cities of Artyom, Ussurisk, Arseniev, Khabarovsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur and the port city of Vanino. In Vanino the flag will be passed to youth activists from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk who will deliver it to the island of Kunashir. Thirty five activists in 14 cars intend to cover about 4,200 kilometers in seven days. In each city a fragment with its name will be attached to the flag so when arriving at Kunashir the final length of the flag should reach 85 meters. The action is devoted to Russian Flag Day which will be celebrated on August 22.

Crime watch Synagogue escapes fire

In Khabarovsk unidentified offenders threw a bottle with flammable liquid at the city’s synagogue on Sunday, but rain puddles choked the fire saving the building.
