Vladivostok audiences countdown to culture week

The Vladivostok News

Cultural life is to sparkle in Primorye in late August starting with the fourth annual International Pacific Meridian Film Festival scheduled from August 25 – 31, coinciding with the 6th Far Eastern Festival of Bard Singing and to be continued with the festival of rock and alternative music ‘Extreme Clan III’ in early September.

Vladivostok residents and guests are invited to attend the fourth annual International Pacific Meridian Film Festival scheduled from August 25 – 31. The festival will kick-off with the South Korean movie ‘Typhoon’ which was partially filmed in Primorye.

Along with the contest and non-contest programs, which will feature a total of 125 films from 21 countries, the festival will also include celebrations of the International Cinema Day on Vladivostok’s central square on August 27. The celebrations will feature a talk show, with the city residents asking questions on the square by phone to the festival’s guests and actors, and will end with a performance from the Russian popular band Nogu Svelo.

The 6th Far Eastern Festival of Bard Singing is expected to gather fans of bard songs from the Russian Far East in the Bay of Tim-kan, in the town of Fokino, 150 kilometers east Vladivostok on August 25-27. The festival will feature performances from various bard singers. Bard poetry is usually sung along with a simple guitar melody, the music being far less important than the lyrics and the chord progressions often very simple and tending to repeat from one bard song to another.

Meanwhile, fans of rock and alternative music are gathering in Vladivostok for the festival ‘Extreme Clan III’ to be held at the ‘Underground’ club on September 2. The festival will feature over 20 bands from the Russian Far East. ‘Extreme Clan III’ is organized by the youth organization Legion.
