Synagogue escapes fire

The Vladivostok News

In Khabarovsk unidentified offenders threw a bottle with flammable liquid at the city’s synagogue on Sunday, but rain puddles choked the fire saving the building.

The incident occurred on Sunday when the assailants flung a Molotov cocktail bottle at the synagogue, news reports said citing a press service from the Khabarovsk region’s Inner Affairs Department.

The bottle broke against the entrance causing the fire, which was soon self-extinguished due to many puddles from a recent rain. No injuries or damage to the building were reported in the incident.

Khabarovsk’s Prosecutor’s Office intends to launch a criminal case into the hooliganism, the statement said.

This has been the second time the synagogue was exposed to criminals’ actions. In late May, a group of unknown assailants daubed the concrete wall against the buildings with anti-Jewish slogans. The slogans were later painted over, and a criminal case was never launched over the offense.
