Intel to hub in Vladivostok

by Alyona Sokolova

Representatives of Intel Corp. and TransTeleKom Co. revealed to reporters in Vladivostok on Tuesday their intention to launch a ‘week of digital technologies’ on Sep. 4, a joint project aiming to enlarge computer audiences and introduce state-of-art computer technologies to officials, business people, teachers and students as well as all committed computer users.

The week of digital technologies will feature free seminars, master classes and an exhibition, a spokeswoman for Intel in Russia and CIS Yekaterina Melnikova told reporters. According to her, on Sep.4 and Sep.5 seminars on advanced computer exploitation will be delivered to the Primorye administration officials and businesses. Lectures for scholars and teachers will be held on Sep.6, Melnikova added.

Two popular Russian Internet portals Yandex and Rambler will organize seminars and round-table discussions about the internet outlook and marketing strategies for all interested computer users on Sep.6 and Sep.7 in the popular ‘Underground’ hall at the Far Eastern Univercity of Economics and Service.

An exhibition, ’A digital adventure for all the family’, screening the most up-to-date computer opportunities will curtain the program at Ocean Movie Theater on Sep. 8-9.

Intel Corp., a major manufacturer of chips, boards, systems, and software for the computer and communications industries and TransTeleKom, a fully-owned subsidiary of Russian Railways operating the largest glass-fiber optical system in Russia, started the joint project of ‘digital technologies to people’ last year. Twenty cities were selected to host the seminars and exhibitions, most of them being located in the western part of Russia.

“Over 200,000 people expressed their interest to new software and technologies attending our events,” Melnikova revealed. Khabarovsk, which was the only city representing the Russian Far Eastern district in 2005, contributed about 22,000 exhibition visitors. “We count on the same interest from Vladivostok audiences this year,” Melnikova added.

Similar weeks of computer competence lectures are scheduled in Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Omsk and Tyumen through the end of this year.
