August 25, 2006Amur representative to compete for rescuers prizeA senior inspector and psychologist from the Amur department of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) was chosen to represent the Russian Far East at the annual ‘Miss MChS’ contest which started in the city of Saratov on Wednesday and aims to demonstrate the employees skills and talents.
Yulia Gorkovenko, who will compete for the main prize together with 16 young women working in the Ministry’s departments all over Russia, was chosen for the contest among numerous contenders during the regional stages, the regional site www.amur.info reported. The three-day contest will feature various competitions, with the participants showing their knowledge of the ministry’s rules and history, as well as first aid skills and specifications for their uniform design. The contest also involves a light-hearted side including a one kilometer race, a musical competition and a cooking competition. Another event will display young women’s talents in dress-making using only a scissors and a staple, capping off with a modeled demonstration of their craft. Along with the Miss MChS winner title, the jury will also award two second and third place prizes. Three other categories are Miss Sport, Miss Charm and Miss People’s Choice. Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu, who is expected to attend the contest, will deliver prizes to the winners, Ria Novosti news agency said.
