Primorye vice governors flee posts en masse

The Vladivostok News

On August 31 Primorye’s Vice-Governor Valery Vasilenko was released of his duties in accord with a resignation request, the regional administration press service reported.

Vasilenko was assigned to the position of supervising the judicial policy of Primorye’s Governor Sergei Darkin in May of 2005. Earlier he occupied the post of Chief Prosecutor of the Primorsky region.

Vasilenko is the third in the line of vice governors who have departed their positions over the past six months. Yury Popov, who formerly was in charge of the agriculture industry in the region, submitted his intent to vacate his job this May. Boris Geltser, Vice Governor in charge of social issues, lost his post, on August 14.

In early August Darkin informed reporters about possible replacements of the region’s top officials. He did not elaborate on the reasons behind the terminations.
