Heeling jib of a construction crane in downtown Vladivostok paralyzed traffic in the city’s center on Thursday and caused evacuation of 726 people from neighboring buildings. The crane was used in the construction works of a multi-level parking lot in downtown Vladivostok, right opposite the building of the city’s administration. On early Thursday constructors reported about the crane’s heeling jib to rescuer and emergency services. As of Friday the jib has been secured and the danger of its falling onto the neighboring buildings has been excluded. The dismantling of the crane is being carried out, the traffic is reported as heavy in the adjoining streets.

A 1,900-meter year-around ice stadium was inaugurated in Ussurisk on Saturday amid celebrations of the town’s 140th foundation anniversary. Primorye Governor Sergei Darkin noted that the $10.5 million stadium in Ussurisk has become the first object in the program of sporting construction. According to the governor, a similar stadium will be built for the residents of the city Bolshoi Kamen by the end of 2007. In accord with the project aiming to maintain a healthy lifestyle in Primorye, the cities of Artyom and Nakhodka will start construction of swimming stadiums in 2007.
