Couple confesses to murder in Khabarovsk

Combined reports

An American, Christopher Garner, and his Ukrainian wife, Svetlana, are in custody in Moscow following their admission to killing a Khabarovsk man, possibly a relative of the wife in an alleged self-defense situation, Russian news agencies reported.

The couple who turned themselves in to police on Saturday, claimed to have killed the man in Khabarovsk, placed the body in a bag and then disposed of it near Solnechny in the Khabarovsky region. Then they left the area for Moscow where the duo appeared at the U.S. Embassy confessing to their crime.

Charges have yet to be filed as officials continue to investigate the crime. It is expected that the case will eventually be transferred to law enforcement in Khabarovsk since that was the venue in which the felony was committed.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released but his body was found following location information provided by Garner.
Neither Moscow officials, Khabarovsk officials nor the U.S. Embassy would release information on the case.
