Crime watch Captain of Japanese poacher boat faces trial in Russia

Court hearings opened on Thursday in the city of Yuzhno-Kurilsk on the case initiated against captain of the Japanese boat which on August 16 had illegally entered Russian waters for poaching near the Kuril Islands. The vessel was spotted, chased and fired upon by Russian border guards resulting in an accidental death of a Japanese fisherman.

Khabarovsk police officials on Wednesday told reporters that an American, Christopher Garner, and his Ukrainian wife, Svetlana, had killed a Russian man to get absolute property rights for an apartment.

Crime watch N. Korean Vice Consul robbed in road accident

The car carrying Vice Consul of North Korea collided with a tractor on the highway near the village of Razdolnoye in southern Primorye on Saturday. A stranger rushed to assist the injured official and robbed him of $23,000.

Russian actor Alexei Loktev was killed in car accident on Sunday near the city of Blagoveshchensk in the Amur region where he arrived to participate in a film festival.
