Russian actor dies in car collision near Blagoveshchensk

Russian actor Alexei Loktev was killed in car accident on Sunday near the city of Blagoveshchensk in the Amur region where he arrived to participate in a film festival.

The driver of the car carrying Loktev and another three guests of the film festival ‘Amurskaya Osen’ did not give way to a minivan driving on the main road and collided with the vehicle, traffic officials said. The collision took place near the village of Tambovka, 40 kilometers off Blagoveshchensk, on Sunday at about 3.30 p.m. local time.

The 66 year-old Loktev died on the spot, Sergei Novozhilov and Alexei Bulanov suffered rib fractures while Yevgeny Syomin was hospitalized with concussion. The three remain in hospital, their conditions are reported as satisfactory.

The 22 year-old driver, whose name is not released, was saved from injuries by an air bag. He is currently under a criminal investigation on the case which resulted in traffic fatalities. The punishment foresees a prison term up to five years.

The body of Loktev was on Wednesday air flown to Moscow for the funeral.

Loktev played in 12 movies, the most known are the Soviet times films ‘I step through Moscow’, ‘Life of Klim Samgin’ and ‘Farewell, pigeons!’
