Far East caviar seized in Moscow

Moscow police on Tuesday seized 20 tons of contraband red caviar in Domodedovo airport from two planes arriving from Russia’s Far Eastern cities of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Moscow police department in charge of combating of economic crimes launched inspection of the two planes which arrived from the cities of Petropavlovsk- Kamchatsky and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and revealed that documents for 20 tons of salmon caviar on board of the two planes were not authentic, a press statement from the department said.

The company, which was declared as the sender of the delicacies, had been liquidated two years ago, the police said. Beside caviar, the police seized 500 kilograms of sturgeon.

Currently police are investigating into possible recipients of the contraband caviar. The people involved in the transportation of the cargo are detained, the statement on the www.mvd.ru said.
