The Vladivostok News

Cooperation perspectives between Primorye and the United States topped the agenda at the meeting of Primorye’s administration officials with Pamela Quanrud, Counselor for Economic Affairs for the US Embassy in Moscow, on September 29.

“Russia’s Far East displays great opportunities for joint projects with the United States in the fields of trade, commerce and investment, “Quanrud said, a press statement from Primorye’s administration reported.

Paying her first visit to Primorye, Quanrud noted that the territory possesses immense natural and human resources.
The meeting’s participants pointed out that existing trade opportunities have not been fully realized so far. Though being an essential trade partner, the United States occupy only the fourth place in Primorye’s international trade turnover.

In the first six months of 2006 Primorye’s trade with the USA reached $64 million, showing a 13 percent increase if compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Russian administration officials outlined to Quanrud the most promising Primorye’s projects which include construction of an oil terminal and processing plant.
