Diesel oil leakage pollutes Chuguyevka

Some 3,000 tons of diesel oil leaked from a storage facility in the village of Chuguyevka, about 200 kilometers northeast from Vladivostok, on early Sunday. As of Wednesday 2,425 tons of the spilt grease have been collected by rescuer services.

The 5,000-ton oil storage facility belonging to a local utility company Primteploenergo had cracked on early Sunday soiling the territory of 15,000 square meters. Rescuer services promptly cordoned off the contaminated area and started cleansing actions.

As of Wednesday some 2,425 tons of spilt oil have been collected. The rescuers also have brought absorbers to clean the soiled ground. They report no contamination danger for local rivers and lakes.

The nature prosecutor’s office has launched a criminal case against Primteploenergo concerning the breach of ecological safety norms. Investigation is underway.
