According to statistics provided by the Finance Department of the regional administration, Primorye’s budget revenue for the first nine months of 2006 totaled 33.1 billion rubles ($1.2 billion), showing a 34 percent increase if compared to the same period last year. The budget expenditures accounted for 31.8 billion rubles, with the budget profit accounting to 1.3 billion rubles ($48.6 million).

Environment Villagers protest illegal cedar cutting

Enraged by illegal cutting of precious cedar trees in their territory villagers of Ariadnoye, located 120 kilometers from the city of Dalnerechensk in central Primorye, urged the local authorities for protection. Having received neither answer nor assistance, the villagers staged a protest on October 27 and invited ecologists and reporters to participate.

Social life Primorye on alert for alcohol-related deaths

In the first nine months of 2006, a total of 187 people have died of alcohol poisoning, including incidents resulting from the consumption of tainted alcohol and alcohol-containing products, a statement from the Primorye Federal Statistics Department reported.
