Arts and Ideas Vladivostok tunes up for jazz fest

Various performers from Russia and the U.S, including the big band Far East Edition of the US 7th Fleet and a noted Russian piano player and composer Anatoly Kroll, will deliver their performances at the upcoming third International Jazz Festival scheduled from November 16-18 in Vladivostok.

Two people died and more than 30 are hospitalized with symptoms of alcohol poisoning in Pozharsky County in northern Primorye, local police officials reported Friday. All victims used cosmetic astringent as an alcoholic drink.

Kamchatka’s prosecutors on Wednesday launched a criminal case against a skipper of a Japanese fishing boat charging him with illegal fishing in Russian territorial waters with an estimated damage of 8.5 million rubles.

Vladivostok may host the summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in 2012 which means that the city will need at least $5.6 billion in investments to host the international event properly, Primorye’s Governor Sergei Darkin told a press conference on Tuesday.

The police have detained and arrested three people in connection with the murder of Dmitry Fotyanov, a candidate for Mayor of Primorye’s town of Dalnegorsk who was gunned down on October 19 three days prior to the elections, a press statement from the regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.
