Three weeks ago I traveled to the Far Eastern Russian city of Vladivostok from the Netherlands, on the other side of the continent. At home I found many people asking me why of all places I chose Vladivostok to go to. I must say, I didn’t really choose Vladivostok, Vladivostok chose me.

Business Primorye to get natural gas in 2010

The Russian state monopoly Gazprom signed on Wednesday a five-year agreement with Primorye’s administration in an effort to pump up the region’s zero natural liquefied gas usage in answer to an expected need of about 2.85 billion cubic meters in 2010.

The tsunami alert has been called off on the Kuril Islands after a powerful undersea earthquake which prompted tsunami warnings Wednesday for Russia and Japan resulted in a serious of wavelets approaching the northern Japanese coast.

The projection of the new federal law which imposes a state monopoly on gambling businesses and creates special gambling zones may result in the loss of a considerable part of the regional budget’s profit.

Business Asia-Europe transport corridor project speeds up

Making a further step to connect the Asian Pacific with Europe, transport ministers and officials from eighteen member states of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) signed the inter-governmental agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway Network on Nov. 10 at the ministerial conference on transport in Pusan, S. Korea.

Business Russia, China ink investment initiatives

Russia and China signed 10 investment agreements with a total worth of over $1 billion during the November 9-13 investment forum in Beijing, Khabarovsk Governor Viktor Ishayev told a press conference in Khabarovsk on Monday. These agreements anticipate cooperation in the oil and gas industries, the power industry, banking, and aluminum production.
