Unknown attackers opened fire at a customs officer seriously wounding him near his residence in downtown Vladivostok on Wednesday, officials reported.

“The officer was victim to an assassination attempt near his apartment and he has been considerably injured,” a spokeswoman for Far Eastern Operative Customs Natalia Malakhova reported. The spokeswoman would reveal neither the name of the officer nor of the hospital where he was taken citing the integrity of the investigation.

Customs officials believe that the assassination attempt might be connected with the professional activities of their officer.
