5 youngsters detained in hate crime

The Vladivostok News

Primorye's police have detained five youngsters related to the brutal beating of three North Korean workers in Vladivostok on December 10. Two of the victims later died at the hospital and one remains in critical condition.

Police held the five young men, their ages varying from 15 to 16 years old, who participated in the racially motivated attack against three North Korean workers, the Primorye prosecutor's office reported Tuesday.

The prosecutors are considering putting under arrest two of the attackers. Investigators say the teenagers were intoxicated when they met the North Korean workers while walking down Voyennoye Shosse Street. They severely beat the victims, resulting in the death of two of the Korean men. One North Korean worker is still in the hospital in critical condition, doctors said.

The detained youngsters are facing preliminary charges of 'deadly assault', prosecutors said.

Investigators revealed that the detained youngsters had prior police records, which included previous attacks on people in the streets adjoining the Voyennoye Shosse residential district.

Primorye's prosecutor’s office reported that they have put the case under special advisement.
