New Year charity marathon sleds into Vladivostok

The Vladivostok News

Primorye’s regional office of the Russian Peace Foundation and several other non-profit organizations have launched the New Year charity marathon "Our world through a child's eyes" in Vladivostok on December 15 and invites volunteers to participate through January 15, 2007.

The project's purpose is to attract the attention of the Vladivostok and Primorye residents to issues of children’s welfare and to provide the children with aid, the Primorye regional office of the Russian Peace Foundation reported.

The marathon’s participants who include the city’s non-profit organizations and some local schools plan to visit orphanages, children's institutions, and disadvantaged families in an attempt not only to provide New Year presents to children, but also to surround them with attention and care.

The volunteering organizations plan to give short theatrical performances to cheer the children and then to present them with toys. Making friends and providing communication are both a part of the heartfelt plan.

The Primorye’s regional office of the Russian Peace Foundation invites residents to participate in the event. The citizens are also welcome to visit orphanages to deliver clothes, New Year presents or toys to the children.
