Hate crime attackers admit guilt, await trial

The Vladivostok News

Four teenagers arrested for attacking North Korean nationals and fatally beating two of them in Vladivostok in mid December have admitted their guilt and have been released under the condition that they not leave the city while awaiting trial, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Police detained five young men, their ages varying from 15 to 16 years old, who participated in the racially motivated attack against three North Korean workers on December 10, the Primorye prosecutor's office reported. Two of the North Korean workers later died at the hospital due to severe trauma.

“The detained young people were all questioned and admitted their guilt,” Irina Nomokonova, a senior aide to Promorye’s prosecutor, reported Wednesday. “The investigators decided to release four of the teens under pledge not to leave the city. One young man will still remain in custody,” Nomokonova said.

Investigators said the teenagers were intoxicated when they met the North Korean workers while walking down Voyennoye Shosse Street. They brutally beat the victims two of which later died at hospital.

The detained youngsters are facing charges of 'deadly assault', prosecutors said.
