Special reports Prosecutors ink Nikolayev’s each move

Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev, who was dismissed from his position by the city Leninsky Court’s decision on Wednesday, talking to reporters an hour after the ouster.Primorye’s prosecutor’s office has forwarded to the general prosecutors for legal comment a complete text version of a press conference given by Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev an hour after he was removed from his position by the city court on Wednesday. Talking to reporters Nikolayev called the case against him ‘a sheer falsification’ and ‘someone’s paid order’.

A suspect in the case of the premeditated murder of Dmitry Fotyanov, a candidate for the Dalnegorsk Mayoral office, killed three days prior to the elections, has recently performed two suicide attempts, his lawyers citing assault from police as the main reason

In 2008 about 35 billion rubles ($1.3 billion) is planned to be spent on the development of the Far Eastern territories with 15 billion rubles intended to be invested in sprucing up Vladivostok for the APEC summit of 2012, the federal officials announced on Wednesday in Vladivostok at a meeting devoted to the development of the Russian Far East.

Vladivostok-based Far Eastern State Technical University made it to the list of Russia’s 40 universities to receive a grant from the federal budget for the implementation of its educational program, a press statement from the university reported Thursday.

Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev was temporarily dismissed from his mayoral position on Wednesday by the city’s prosecutor’s office which is considering a criminal case against Nikolayev on the grounds of abusing his office.

Special reports Russian Prime Minister visits Japan, expected in Vladivostok

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov arrived in Japan for a two-day visit on Tuesday to meet with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe and discuss the possible expansion of trade between the two countries. On Wednesday Fradkov is expected to arrive in Vladivostok to hold talks about the development of the Russian Far East.

Crime watch 2 Russian female tourists attacked in China, one dead

An unidentified Chinese man attacked two Russian women in the town of Heihe on Sunday, fatally injuring one of his victims with a knife and wounding another on her shoulder, Amur region officials reported.
