Primorye’s residents on Sunday are to vote for local Duma deputies in nine of the region’s while in the towns of Bolshoy Kamen and Arseniev the citizens will also have to elect the mayors, officials said.

Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev was put under arrest by the court’s ruling on March 7 in Vladivostok, a day after he was detained in Moscow by the federal law enforcement bodies. Nikolayev is facing charges of abuse of office and embezzlement.

The majority of Russians, 92 percent of women and 80 percent of men, enjoy celebrating the International Women’s Day on March 8 and consider it a true holiday, a recent opinion poll held by the VTsIOM agency revealed.

Vladimir Nikolayev, who was dismissed from his mayoral position February 28 by the city’s court decision, on the following day signed an order resuming his duties as mayor of Vladivostok, saying the court’s ruling is to take effect only in a ten-day period.
