Six Russian participants started off to their worldwide trip named ‘Expedition Around the World’ from the city of Vladivostok on March 8, by flying their two orange-colored jeeps into air.

The grandiose year-long trip began at Vladivostok’s lighthouse situated on Egersheld peninsula in the Golden Horn Bay, with two bright orange jeeps elevated in the air by helicopters destining to Alaska, where the first leg of the tour will start April 24, the organizers’ official site http://around-the-world.ru reported.

The project aims to track the ‘Russian trace’ in the world’s culture and history, including famous people, traditions, and tracing the role of Russian culture in the history of world’s nations, its scientific and geographic research.

According to the trip organizers, the route will stretch through North and South America, Europe and Russia, with the participants ending the journey in Vladivostok in March 2008. In 2008, the expedition will continue in Australia, Asia and Africa, the site said.

In previous years, the project involved participants taking part in Russia’s race Expedition Trophy, with the route stretching from Murmansk to Vladivostok, covering some 16,000 kilometers across Russia.
