March 23, 2007Vladivostok to showcase French filmsEight French movies of various genres will be featured for Vladivostok residents and guests at the French Film Week to be held in the beginning of April.
The event, scheduled from April 1-8, is organized by the committee of the Pacific Meridian Film Festival with the assistance from the French Embassy in Russia, a press statement from the committee reported. The festival’s program to be exhibited in the city’s Ocean cinema aims to meet different tastes, with movies produced in the past few years and ranging from thrillers to comedies. Among the dramas to be shown are ‘La Trahison’ (The Betrayal) filmed by Morocco-born Philippe Faucon and ‘La Petite Jérusalem’ (Little Jerusalem) directed by Karin Albou. The program also includes the criminal drama ‘Le Petit Lieutenant’ (Young Lieutenant), directed by Xavier Beauvois, which brought the Cesar Award for Best Actress to Nathalie Baye in 2006. More light-hearted films featured are ‘Les Soeurs Fâchées (Me And My Sister), a dramatic comedy starring Isabelle Huppert and François Berléand, and the comedy ‘Je ne suis pas là pour être aimé’ (I'm Not Here to Be Loved) directed by Stéphane Brizé. Younger audiences will be presented with the animation ‘Princes et Princesses’ (Princes and Princesses), which received the Adult's Jury Award at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival in 2001. The French film week, which has become a traditional event for Vladivostok residents, first premiered in the city in 2003 and has been a consistently enjoyable experience for both the city’s residents and its guests. Along with Vladivostok, the French film week is featured in 12 other Russian cities.
