2 Americans assailed in Vladivostok this week

A US resident was attacked and robbed in downtown Vladivostok early Tuesday, sharing the fate of another American citizen who was robbed of his money and documents six days prior to the second case.

The man, whose name was not revealed, was assaulted by four young people aged from 16 to19 at around 2.40 a.m. Tuesday on the Nabereznhaya Street near the city’s aquarium, a press statement from the Primorye’s Department of Inner Affairs said. The American citizen was returning from a nearby café when he was attacked and beaten by the youngsters.

A group of policemen, who came to the scene after receiving a call from witnesses, managed to detain two of the robbers on nearby Pogranichnaya Street. The other two attackers were arrested at a later time.

The assailants were identified by the man, who was taken with various injuries to a city hospital. Information on his condition is yet to be revealed, news reports said. Primorye’s Prosecutor Office has launched a criminal case on the robbery.

Earlier, in a separate case another American man, a sailor from a steamship visiting the city, was attacked and robbed on Svetlanskaya Street in downtown Vladivostok on Wednesday night. The attackers robbed the man of $300 and seized his documents. The assailants were not detained.
