Fishermen saved from ice near Vladivostok

The Vladivostok

About 280 fishermen torn off the shore on a block of ice in Amur Bay were successfully rescued on Saturday.

The floe was torn away from thin coastal ice by a strong wind in the morning at the Krasny cape at Vladivostok suburbs, with the floe floating further off in the bay.

The rescue operation, which was aggravated by strong wind and rain, was performed by eight boats, including three hover ships. The rescuers managed to save all the fishermen and take them to the shore.

According to reports, the fishermen had ignored the warnings from Primorye’s Department for Emergency Situations informing them of the possible danger.

Each spring, hundreds of fishermen disregard the warnings heading for the dangerous enjoyment of fishing on the melting ice blocks.

Meanwhile, the regional Department for Emergency Situations intends to propose introducing fines for non-permitted ice-fishing, television channel NTV reported.
