Pacific Fleet engages maneuvers

The Vladivostok News

Over 15 vessels and aircraft from Primorye’s formation of the Pacific Fleet are involved in the naval drills which started in the Sea of Japan Monday, a press statement from the Fleet reported.

The scheduled exercises are aimed at completing the unit’s winter combat drills, the statement said.

The exercises include missile and gun firing and a simulated search for and elimination of enemy submarines, with surface ships and the Fleet’s anti-submarine aircraft involved.

During the exercises, the aircraft crews will also practice take-offs and landings on large anti-submarine ships both in the daytime and at night, while the vessel crews perform torpedo attacks.

The drills are supervised by the formation Commander Vice-Admiral Viktor Chirkov, the statement reported.
