Parrot smuggler’s wings clipped

Amur region customs officers on Wednesday detained a woman trying to smuggle a bunch of parrots from China to the city of Blagoveshchensk, with several birds hidden beneath her clothing.

The Russian tourist returning from the Chinese town of Heihe, declared 20 parrots to the customs control, a press statement from Far Eastern Customs reported. However, she forgot to mention to customs officers another nine birds hidden under her coat.

The woman whose name is not revealed could not present any permissive documents for the pocketed parrots. The birds were seized and put under quarantine, the statement said

A case has been launched into the incident, the statement reported.
