Primorye’s secretary of United Russia’s political council Vladimir Kurilov, a close ally to the arrested Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev and an apparent rival to the region’s thriving governor Sergei Darkin, has recently received a black mark of dissatisfaction from local leaders who are fiercely fighting for absolute political dominance in the territory.

The destroyer USS John S. McCain will arrive to the Far Eastern port of Vladivostok on May 8 to participate in the celebrations devoted to the 62th anniversary of Russia’s victory over fascist Germany in World War II on May 9.

Social life Pensioners rally on May Day

An elderly man firmly holds a red flag of the former Soviet Union to show his protest against low level of living for pensioners in contemporary Russia on May 1 in Vladivostok. Some 300 elderly people gathered near the statue to Vladimir Lenin near the railway station in the city’s downtown to cry their outrage at the insufficient pensions.

Residents of the Russian Far East can visit Primorye’s coastal territories in the summer with no special permission or border passes, head of the region’s Border Guard Service for Russia’s Federal Security Service Vladimir Lakizo recently announced at a press conference in Khabarovsk officially welcoming travelers and visitors.
