Charity never out of fashion

The Vladivostok News

The first and so far the only shelter for the homeless people in Primorye region was opened in the town of Ussurisk in early October by joint forces of officials and catholic priests.

Ussurisk Catholic Church initiated the construction of a building where local homeless people could receive meals, shelter and support several years ago. The administration authorities of Ussurisk agreed of the idea and allotted the land for the construction.

Construction works were sponsored and performed by both Ussurisk authorities and religious organizations from South Korea, America, Argentine and Italy.

In the upcoming winter months, the center will be able to provide shelter for some 30 homeless people. Besides meals and night protection, the center is ready to offer work in its own carpenter workshop as well as services of a laundry room and a library. The consultants from Ussurisk administration say they will help solve problems with documents, work and pensions.

Meanwhile in Blagoveshchensk, Amur region, a charity action launched by Children’s Fund and joined by Orthodox Church and sponsors brought 57 cows for local extended families.

Blagoveshchensk branch of Russian Children Fund started the action called ‘a cow to be presented to a large family’ in 2005.

This year Blagoveshchensk Eparchy of Russian Orthodox Church joined the project and purchased two cows for two families with many children in the village of Mukhinskoye in Shimanovsky County.

The charity action organizers also brought clothes, toys and books for the children.
