Dalnegorsk elects businessman for mayor

The Vladivostok News

Grigory Krutikov, head of the mining company Dalpolimetall, won the second round of mayoral elections in Primorye’s town of Dalnegorsk on Sunday gathering 51 percent of votes, a year after the previous elections were postponed due to the murder of one of the candidates three days before election day.

Krutikov, who made it to the second round on October 14, won over his rival Alexander Terebilov, head of Azalia Company, gathering 8,588 votes, a press statement from Primorye’s election committee reported. Terebilov managed to collect 7,747 votes, or 46 percent, the statement said.

The current elections became the fourth attempt to pick the town’s mayor, with most of the voters casting their votes against all candidates in 2004 and the election results in 2005 announced illegitimate due to numerous cases of bribery for voters.

Last October, the second round of the elections was cancelled when Dmitry Fotyanov, a candidate running for the post, was shot dead near his office in a contract hit killing three days prior to the elections. The investigation into the case has not been finished so far.
