Finland, Primorye seek techno-industrial ties

Vladivostok, an economical center of Primorye region, is an appropriate choice for holding international activities, including the 2012 APEC summit, Finland’s ambassador to Russia Harry Gustaf Helenius stressed at a meeting with Primorye administration officials on Wednesday.

At the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for cooperation between Finland and Russia in industrial and high-tech sectors, a statement from Primorye administration said.

Among the event attendees were representatives from Finland’s Entre Marketing, an exhibition stand contractor and services provider, a global engineering and technology corporation Metso Automation, and companies Marioff and Wartsila.

Primorye’s Vice Governor Sergei Sopchuk shared plans for Primorye’s economical development and the projects to be implemented in the next few years. Among them, he mentioned the 2012 APEC summit, which is expected to make Primorye as Russia’s major economic, cultural and scientific center in the Pacific Rim.

Sopchuk also mentioned the project of building an oil refinery and oil and gas pipelines as well as introducing new high-tech productions, which are expected to be built for the 2012 summit.

The Finnish side expressed interest in the development projects, which can involve high technologies implementation, the statement said. The meeting particpants also discussed the potential of cooperation in the region’s timber industry, where Finnish equipment is successfully used.
