Crime watch Mayor to stand trial in custody

Vladivostok Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev is being escorted into the building of the Leninsky court on Wednesday to stand trial on charges of abuse of office. Despite the fact that hearings were declared open to the press, Nikolayev was driven to the back entrance of the building to escape reporters and cameras.Vladivostok’s Leninsky court on Wednesday announced that the city’s Mayor Vladimir Nikolayev, who is facing trial on charges of abuse of office, will remain in custody for the duration of the trial to prevent him from escaping prosecution or pressuring witnesses.
