The elections having taken place on Sunday, the advertising materials still remain on the walls, fences and streets of Vladivostok. The city’s municipal services on Tuesday publicly asked the campaign committees to clean up their promotional materials, a press statement from Vladivostok’s administration said. The municipal services suggested that the candidates and their assistants could hold a major clean-up on December 8, the statement said.

Khasan customs officers in southern Primorye detained a North Korean tanker for attempting to smuggle fuel from Russia to the DPRK in a hidden storage area Monday, officials reported.

A voter turnout for the State Duma elections in Primorye hit 58 percent on Sunday indicating an increase of citizen’s interest in the political life of Russia as well as their loyalty to pro-Kremlin United Russia party which harvested 56 percent of the votes. In the elections held in 2003 the voter turnout reached 46 percent and the ballots cast for United Russia made only 28 percent.
