Some 2,642 residents of Severo-Kurilsk, Kuril Islands, still remain without electricity, four days after a breakdown at the local current generators occurred, news reports said.

Special reports Man attempts to cut shell, gets killed

A scrap metal collector was fatally injured in an explosion while dismantling an armed shell with a gas welder in the settlement of Bira, Jewish Autonomous Region, a press statement from the Russian Far East’s Department of Inner Affairs on Wednesday.

Special reports United Russia wins federal, local Duma seats

A voter turnout for the State Duma elections in Primorye hit 58 percent on Sunday indicating an increase of citizen’s interest in the political life of Russia as well as their loyalty to pro-Kremlin United Russia party which harvested 56 percent of the votes. In the elections held in 2003 the voter turnout reached 46 percent and the ballots cast for United Russia made only 28 percent.
