January 10, 2008Tigers go hungry, victims drunk or scrawnyIn early January a man was attacked by a tiger in the taiga forest in the Khabarovsky region but luckily survived the encounter after the animal decided to leave the intoxicated victim without inflicting fatal injuries. Another tiger decided to feast on cows in a village in the Primorsky region but had to go away hungry due to extreme slenderness of the cows.
On January 1 two men from the village of Solontsovy in the Khabarovsky region decided to take a walk into the nearby taiga forest, deputy head of Tiger Inspectorate Vitaly Starostin reported. The men drove to the forest and one of them set on a trip inside the taiga. The man was attacked by a tiger which bit the victim on both shoulders and broke several bones. The animal then abandoned the injured man. It should be mentioned that during the incident both men, who turned out to be brothers, were heavily intoxicated and can not even remember the place where the tiger attack occurred, Starostin reported. The victim mentioned two places in the taiga which are a 20-kilometer distance from each other. He also could not clearly describe the moment of his encounter with the tiger or recall the reasons which could have provoked the animal to attack. According to the Tiger Inspectorate experts, these cats rarely attack people without provocation. The specialists have set out for the location where the incident took place in order to investigate. Another case with a tiger involvement was reported in the village of Lukino in the Primorsky region where the animal entered the enclosure for cows but left soon without touching a single cow. The tiger snuck inside the enclosure using the hole in the fence and strolled among skinny Australian cows. The latter, however, did not stir an appetizing interest in the predator and he left the enclosure without lunch.
