Policemen face charges for suspect’s suicide

A man committed suicide in a police detention cell in Vladivostok after policemen ‘exceeded their powers towards him resulting in grave consequences’, prosecutors revealed Wednesday.

The man with signs of suffocation typical for suicide was found in the detention cell of the Sovetsky district police department. The name of the victim, his age or the reasons why he was detained by police were not revealed.

Primorye’s prosecutors have launched an investigation against the head of the shift supervisor for the department and one of the policemen. The preliminary inspection revealed that the two have evidently exceeded their authority causing serious consequences, the prosecutor’s investigation department reported. The policemen may face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
