February 26, 2008Cadet found hanged in UssuriskThe Military Prosecutor’s Office in Primorye’s town of Ussurisk has launched an investigation into the case of a cadet at a local Suvorov Military School who was found hanged on February 22, news reports said.
The body of a 17-year-old student, whose name is not disclosed, was found off the school’s campus, Ria Novosti news agency cited a school representative as saying. The cadet, a Primorye resident, was completing his final year at the school, the agency reported. Currently, prosecutors are interrogating the student’s fellow cadets and commanders. According to the school’s administration, the case could not have been caused by hazing, news reports cited the Prosecutor’s Office of Russian Far East’s Military District. Suvorov Military School is a type of Russian institution for boys age 14-17, with the curriculum consisting of military subjects. This type of academy was created in the USSR to provide male teenagers with secondary education specializing in military affairs.
