The Vladivostok News

Russian Far East transport police detained a female drug courier who was carrying 18.3 kilograms of heroin to Primorye on a passenger train, the biggest batch of the drug seized in Russia so far this year.

The 46-year-old woman, a gypsy by nationality, was carrying the lot in her baggage in the passenger train traveling from Moscow to Vladivostok, according to a March 21 press statement from the Far Eastern Department of Russia’s Inner Affairs Ministry.

The inspection revealed that the woman received the lot in western Russia, the drug having been delivered from a former CIS country in Central Asia. The heroin was intended to be sold in the Khabarovsk and Primorye regions.

The value of the batch is estimated at approximately 37 million rubles, the price of the product on the Far Eastern black market, the statement said.

A criminal case of transporting narcotics has been launched. The woman, who was detained and put into a temporary isolation ward, may face a prison sentence of up to ten years and a heavy fine. Currently, the police are determining the heroin recipients, the statement said.
