Kamchatka invites foreigners for bear hunting

The spring hunting season for brown bears opens in Kamchatka on April 25 with 625 licenses being offered for sale, 290 of them can be obtained by foreign hunting lovers.

Kamchatka and Koryakia which currently comprise the Kamchatsky Krai, have the quota of 325 and 300 bears allowed for hunting accordingly. An individual license for a hunter costs 6,000 rubles ($250), the statement from the Kamchatsky Krai administration said.

According to Kamchatka’s Forest and Hunting Agency, hunters from the U.S., Germany, Canada and other countries will receive a total of 142 licenses in the Koryakia district. In the Kamchatsky district, 148 licenses for foreign hunters will be issued.

According to the statement, the agency intends to control the hunting season and protect the areas from unlawful actions. The agency specialists will also be involved in inspections controlling further export of hunting trophies and animal body parts to monitor the legality of the hunting process.
